25CP11.28 - BBNC: Wilderness Survival Summer Camp (10-12)

Program is Full
Wilderness Survival Camp
Tuesday – Friday, July 22nd - July 25th, 2025
9:00am – 4:00pm Tues and Wed; 9:00am (Thurs) – 10:00am (Fri) at Bear Branch Nature Center
Ages 10 – 12 ¦ $200 for members; $225 for non-members

Do you have what it takes?! Each day of Wilderness Survival Camp will offer a unique challenge to complete. From fire making to shelter building to orienteering to foraging, campers will learn team building skills that will assist them in surviving in the wilderness. We will learn about how indigenous peoples survived back in the Woodland
Period as well as how animals are able to survive in the great outdoors each and every day. Our survival skills learned throughout the week will be put to the test when we play the Wildlife Simulation game!

Campers will spend the night Thursday evening where they will be provided with dinner before heading out for an Owl Prowl. The night will wrap with a campfire before camping under the stars. Friday morning will begin with breakfast before a final farewell at 10:00am.

Note:

This summer, Bear Branch Nature Center is offering a variety of nature camps to provide summertime fun and environmental learning for campers ages 5-12. Hashawha’s 320-acre park provides an ideal location for camp with a backdrop of streams, meadows, forests, and wetlands to explore. Summer Nature Camp offers campers the opportunity to learn about Maryland’s ecology and natural history as well as providing entertainment through games, crafts, and exploration.

Each week has a maximum of 25 campers. Campers will be supervised by the Park Staff who have years of experience leading high-quality summer camps as well as being CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. Volunteer Camp Counselors, aged 14+, will assist Staff in leading games, hikes, and other activities throughout the week.

In order for every camper to stay happy and safe, please be sure to do the following:
* Pack a non-perishable lunch daily.
* Bring a water bottle!
* Campers should wear closed-toed shoes or secure footwear at all times.
* A change of clothes is a MUST to keep campers feeling fresh after a muddy or water-related activity.
* Applying sunblock each morning prior to camp is helpful since we strive to be outside most of the day.
* Bug spray or long-sleeved clothing is recommended to prevent mosquito and tick bites.

Please note that the age for enrollment in all Bear Branch Nature Camps is determined by your child’s age on June 1st, 2025.

You will receive a welcome letter with more information pertaining to your child’s week of summer camp before the camp week. For further information about any of the Bear Branch Nature Camps,
